灵丘大青背山羊养殖历史悠久，据考证已有数百年历史。灵丘县大青背山羊是在特定的自然条件和生态环境下，经过长期的自然选择和定向培育形成的一个肉绒兼用型地方山羊品种，具有独立的遗传特性，因其全身皮毛呈黑色，背部为青色，故称大青背山羊。灵丘大青背山羊产地主要集中在该县的下关、独峪、白崖台、东河南（银厂）、红石塄、上寨等乡镇。2009年，灵丘县大青背山羊被列入山西省20种首批省级畜禽遗传资源保护品种名录，成为“省保”地方优良品种。大青背山羊生活在大山深处，吃的是优良天然牧草，喝的是天然泉水，生产出来的肉更是天然绿色、无公害的食品，产品远销京津冀、广东、福建等地。
