“义井甜瓜”产于山西省忻州市忻府区，生产历史悠久。据《忻县志》记载：“俗称甜瓜、小瓜。忻县甜瓜品种甚多，主要品种有灯笼红、绿节翠、梨翠、蛤蟆皮、柳叶青、黑皮瓜、白兰瓜等，种植面积较大，产量多，香甜可口，以曹村滩上、高城、义井所产的灯笼红，逯家庄的绿节翠等瓜品质较佳。”忻州素以盛产香瓜闻名，北义井乡更是忻州香瓜的中心产区，有“碱地香瓜，瓜中极品”之称。“义井甜瓜”上市季节在七月份，走在田间即可闻到浓郁的瓜香。“游五台山圣境，吃北义井甜瓜。”这是忻府区北义井村的瓜农们自拟的广告词。近年来，每到甜瓜收获的季节，忻台线义井段公路两旁瓜棚林立，随着飘逸的瓜香，义井甜瓜的名气也传到了四面八方。
