忻州糯玉米产于山西省忻州市忻府区。忻府区，古时名忻州，建国后名为忻县，1983年经国务院批准更名为忻州市（县级），2000年经国务院批准撤销忻州市（县级）、忻州地区，分别更名为忻府区、忻州市（地级）。忻府区作为忻州市唯一的市辖区，其生产的“忻州糯玉米”的称谓依然延续至今。忻州糯玉米起步于1993年，是中国最早引进种植糯玉米并加工的地区，2006年产量居全国的第三位，处于全国前列，位居三晋第一。忻州特殊的气候条件，形成糯玉米糖份积累多、香甜软糯的特点，到目前发展到3万亩以上，产品畅销北京、上海等省市自治区，并远销美国、俄罗斯、韩国、日本等地。2011年忻府区被国家农业部授予“国家级甜糯玉米标准化示范区”称号。
