神池黑豆产于山西省忻州市神池县，种植历史悠久。据历史文献记载，黑豆为神池县缴纳公粮主要品种，且每年保持在10万斤左右。据《神池县志》记载，神池黑豆种植面积1975年为28830亩、1980年为16282亩、1985年为50675亩，现在每年保持在5万亩以上。神池豆腐远近闻名，豆香十足、久烩不烂，是每日神池人餐桌上必不可少的一道菜，神池黑豆便是主要原料，当地有句俗话说“神池人不可一日无豆”之说；神池黑豆的又一妙用是酿造老黑酱，几乎家家自酿；还有黑豆豆芽，新人结婚时要将黑豆豆芽撒在婚车上和新娘包袱里，寓意着生根发芽、繁衍生息；神池人还有在冬至炒黑豆“咬杂病”之风俗。2003年神池县被山西省政府确定为全省优质小杂粮重点县。
